2020 has been an atypical year, marked by realities as diverse as a global pandemic or new waves of societal activism. IVolunteer International has mobilized to respond to these extraordinary circumstances, continuing to promote change through volunteerism. Recognizing the need for new initiatives to confront uncertain times, this year we have further developed our Writer’s Council to more effectively equip our writers with the skills necessary for them to enact change in their communities.
The IVolunteer International Writers’ Council was born as a platform to empower young leaders and activists to share their experiences and perspectives on local challenges. In 2020, the program grew exponentially – attracting over 150 applicants from all over the world, and commencing its third cohort. Building upon its foundation, the program has now evolved into a young-leader training and advocacy program. This has been thanks to the outstanding work of Dr. Michelle Keating, who has created a monthly professional development seminar series for the Writers’ Council program from the bottom up.
Dr. Keating is a renowned professional with extensive experience in supporting young leaders in the development of high-impact skills, preparing them to excel in their careers. With her Doctorate in Education from Argosy University and specialization in Organizational Leadership, she is exceptionally positioned to empower young changemakers and teach them how to leverage their potential to the fullest.
As the Director of Career Services at the South University, Dr. Keating has impacted the lives of hundreds of students, enabling them to pursue their passions with her unwavering support and guidance. Her strategic knowledge of the job market and the core skills it requires has led her to develop workshops training students on key issues like public speaking, resume writing and career planning. Always kind and approachable, she promotes a positive environment for students to navigate the uncertainties of higher education and build up their leadership potential. Dr. Keating is also an Adjunct Professor of Public Speaking at Point University and a volunteer with United Way of the Coastal Empire, further engaging in public service.
At IVolunteer International, Dr. Keating has used our organization’s platform to connect our writers to accomplished experts – promoting the development of core professional competencies. By mobilizing her extensive professional network, Dr. Keating has created a varied scope of sessions that have allowed our writers to receive masterclasses from professionals like Bryan Greenlee, president of a Toastmasters chapter and seasoned public speaker, and J. Catalina Garcia-Quick, a renowned public relations expert promoting non-profit work.
Dr. Keating has been a remarkable addition to IVolunteer International, and the program she has created will serve to continue to empower future cohorts to create lasting impact in their communities. Her commitment to continued learning and service through volunteer work and teaching embodies our mission, and we are proud to have her with us while we move forwards and continue to promote change through volunteerism.
