The Athens Area Humane Society is a donor-supported no-kill 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to lowering area euthanasia rates through adoption, spay/neuter, and pet retention programs.
It is so important to focus on the rescue and care of animals who would otherwise be euthanized. We are a group of animal welfare activists who started the Athens Area Humane Society nearly three decades ago. Our mission is to rescue, spay/neuter, and find homes for animals in Georgia and beyond.
Volunteer Opportunities
Cat Volunteers: You will be helping socialize our adoptable cats and kittens at the shelter. This includes playing with them, helping them get exercise, brushing them, and giving them lots of love!
Dog Volunteers: You will be helping socialize and take care of the dogs and puppies at our shelter. This means playing with them, taking them for walks, picking up after them, brushing them, and giving them lots of love!
Spay/Neuter Center Volunteers: You will be helping the Spay/Neuter staff by doing laundry, sanitizing surgical equipment, unfolding newspaper, and wrapping surgical packs. This is a huge help to our Spay/Neuter Staff!
General Shelter Volunteers: You will be helping with any needs at the shelter. This includes, but is not limited to, answering phones, cleaning cages, doing dishes, and assisting the shelter staff with anything needed.
