AIESEC is one of the world’s largest providers of high-calibre youth talent and volunteers. AIESEC develops the next generation of leaders and connects them with businesses and NGO’s. They proudly count a Nobel Peace Prize laureate and numerous world, business and NGO leaders amongst their one million strong alumni community. To date, they have delivered over 480,000 internship and volunteering experiences, and it’s all been led by young leaders who believe in making the world a better place.
AIESEC in Sri Lanka is launching a project named “Local Volunteer” to engage individuals around the community in Sri Lanka to join hands with them in making a difference. By participating in the Local Volunteer program, you will ‘develop your mindset in a global environment by volunteering to address the SDGs alongside international volunteers and to acquire leadership and soft skills while creating direct positive impact in the local communities.’
You will have the (1) opportunity to impact the local community, (2) harness team experience in a global and diverse team, (3) improve leadership qualities and soft-skills, (4) connect with like-minded people, and (5) increase your awareness on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and social responsibility.
There are a few projects being organized under the umbrella of Local Volunteer Project.
Project Beyond The Ability
This project is organized by the University of Colombo and invites 5 volunteer opportunities. The project starts on January 16, 2017.
- Volunteers will be provided with the opportunity to work with children with Autism, Down’s syndrome, the visually impaired and children and adults with a hearing disability.
- Volunteers will work in Diri Daru Piyasa.
- Instructing the students the way they should perform some movements (ex: How to stand in a queue, do the same motion) and making a friendly learning environment.
- Make them aware of the value of the human life in this world and make them understand their potential and their hidden talents.
- Teach them to do handcraft (using demonstrations), keeping track of their improvement and assist their parents in helping them improve their performance.
Project Wasser
This project is organized by the University of Kelaniya and invites 3 volunteer opportunities. The project starts on January 16, 2017.
- Volunteers will be given a learning session about the present context of Sri Lanka regards to water & sanitation.
- Volunteers are to visit some places where the water recycling & water refinery would happen.
- Planning to so school awareness programs relates to water & sanitation
- Volunteers are to visit few people who are suffocating from Kidney diseases because of unclean water & to prepare comprehensive report
Project Earth
This project is organized by the University of Moratuwa and invites 8 volunteer opportunities. The project starts on January 10, 2017.
- Improving the awareness about sustainability among the school children
- There will be a tree plantation program and a beach cleanup event organized.
- Field visit conducting by irrigation department of Sri Lanka. At the end of this field visit, volunteers will compile an article mentioning the issues they observe in the field visit and suggesting solutions to them. This article should be up to the standards to publish in public media.
Project Ample Path of Inspiration
This project is organized by the University of Jayawardenapura and invites 3 volunteer opportunities. The project starts on January 15, 2017.
- Deliver 9 school sessions about youth empowerment in the 9 provinces of Sri Lanka with coverage of around 150 participants per session. (Eg: Example – Documentary Writing, Social Etiquette, Presentation, Personal grooming and Speech etc)Research on new trends among the youth of Sri Lanka, in an analytical manner which can be used as one of the outputs of the project.

- CSR events on our responsibility towards the environment. Such as beach cleanup, wastage management.
