IVolunteer International is a 501(c)3 tech-nonprofit registered in Savannah, Georgia with the vision is “creating 7 billion volunteers.” Since 2017, the organization has embedded itself into the nonprofit industry around the world, connecting volunteers to volunteer projects using their website. In this experiment, IVolunteer International’s team focused on learning the challenges individual people face when they create and engage in volunteer activities in their local communities.
“Over time, we realized that volunteering is not always easy for everyone. There are commitment barriers, financial barriers, and accessibility barriers. Not all people have equal access to create and engage in volunteer projects” said Nipuna Ambanpola, Executive Director of IVolunteer International.
Now, after three years of experimental operation and generating great results for promoting on-demand volunteer engagement, IVolunteer International has embarked on a project to design and develop a location-based mobile application for volunteers to use. The mobile application will track the user’s live location and show them a newsfeed of local volunteer opportunities available. The app will also allow individual people to create their own projects, track their social impact in real-time, and allow volunteers and hosts to communicate, review each other, and create better relationships. The app will, on the aggregate, collect data on how individual volunteers are mobilizing to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and hope to make this data available in the public domain, hoping that decision-makers, researchers, educators, and other nonprofits will be able to make informed decisions on important issues in the Savannah community and beyond.
“We wanted to create an efficient infrastructure to achieve the launch of the mobile app. This is why we partnered with East Taylor Creatives, a software company right here in Savannah, Georgia to design and develop the mobile app.” Ambanpola added.
East Taylor Creatives describes them as an idea factory + creative studio located in Savannah, Georgia bringing purpose-driven dreams to life. They create websites, apps, software, and services that empower nonprofits and for-profits making this world a better place.
The first phase of the mobile app will be launched in late Summer 2020 in Savannah, Georgia and more features will be added through subsequent upgrades.
