This is the day we remember and celebrate the older persons in our community by visiting them and taking care of them. In our modern age and busy schedules, we tend to run through life and we forget our elders in our society. The neglect goes as far as abandoning our old folks in the streets, helpless and unable to fend for themselves. This should not be so.
We should always remember the old people in our society and take care of them as equal human beings.
Why care for the Old Persons?
Before we were born, they were the people who broke their backs and worked tirelessly to build our economies and families. They provided for their daily bread and strive for a better life. The seniors took care of our parents who took care of us. They passed on their way of survival and all the knowledge they had from generation to generation. So why can’t we return the favor in show of our gratitude to them?
The old in our society are delicate like flowers. They need to be tended to in order for them to have a quality life. The life that every human being deserves. Their health and nutrition should be well cater for since their immune is not as strong as before. They should live in a safe, clean environment where they are comfortable and happy.
Homes for the aged
In many countries, either the government or the community establishes homes for the aged. The homes are very important. They ensure the abandoned aged persons are taken care of. The homes create a good environment for the aged where they engage in simple activities which keep them busy and active the whole day. The homes are vital in monitoring how the older persons are progressing.
Our Obligation
We should remember to visit our aged wherever they are. Every life is sacred and we should preserve life and its quality to the fullest. Our gratitude to our aged is by taking care of them and spending time with them. The smiles on their faces will be an enough thank you.
“Our society must make it right and possible for old people not to fear the young or be deserted by them, for the test of a civilization is the way that it cares for its helpless members.”
