“Suicide” – a painful result of a hasty decision. Suicide is the climax of extended mental and emotional suffering. It is incidental rather than mindful-incidental to the desire to escape the utter pain of living.
In Sri Lanka suicide is one of the major causes of death for ones who are between 10-24 years. One out of every five teenagers consider suicide as an option during the tough times of their adolescence.
The Butterfly Effect
The youth of the Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayawardenepura have initiated a suicide awareness campaign. The Butterfly Effect strives to create awareness in society about the silent struggle of those contemplating suicide. An act as subtle and delicate as the flutter of a butterfly’s wings, can make a world of difference. and no challenge you cannot face.
The project is conducted under the patronage and assistance of the Senior Director of Club Development – Thanushi Jayaweera and Director of Public Relations- Thanuri De Costa. The Butterfly Effect Campaign is carried out on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to influence and inform the youth about the lethal properties of suicide and preciousness of life.
Small things matter…
Reminding that you care for your loved ones through a social media post might seem small effort to prevent suicide. But such a gesture of friendship might be the sole reason a person will choose life over death.
We at IVolunteer International join hands with the Rotaractors of University of Sri Jayawardenepura in redefining friendships to water the dying flowers of youth to make them bloom like never before.
