Future We Want Model United Nations (FWWMUN) is a stimulated (model) United Nations conference that brings together thousands of young people from around the world to compile solutions to global issues. The event is sponsored by the Italian Diplomatic Academy (IDA). This weekend-long aggressive stimulation of the United Nations allows young leaders and youth activists to be vocal about the causes they care about and contribute to narrate the solutions.
This is a very popular stepping stone for young people who are interested in getting involved in a global platform but are new to the industry. Seasoned youth activists almost always recall their first experiences to a model united nations conference such as FWWMUN, which allowed them to open up, gain critical soft and debating skills, and helped them navigate through different cultural, economic, and global personalities.
FWWMUN 2019 took place from March 1 – March 3, 2019, in Grand Hyatt, New York City. 50 volunteers, connected through IVolunteer International were responsible for the intense logistical operations during the conference. The organizing committee’s attention to detail and expertise in planning and the high energy and commitment of the volunteers resulted in a smooth-flowing, efficient, and stress-free conference.
During the event, delegates had the opportunity to represent countries around the world, participate in in-depth and comprehensive conversations in their U.N. Committee Sessions and had the opportunity to listen to, and learn from industry experts from a plethora of organizations.
A significant and noticeable component of the conference was the demographic of its participants. The delegations not only represented 100+ countries, but also had a noticeable gender balance. More than half of the senior executives of the organizing committee were female and the opening ceremony had an overwhelming attendance and participation from young girls and women, setting the ground for a great campaign to achieve gender balance in the world, commemorating the International Women’s Day 2019, under the theme #BalanceForBetter.
March is dedicated to celebrating Women’s History. Under this year’s theme #BalanceforBetter, we notice the absence of [gender] balance, which is very important and also celebrates
its [gender balance] presence and growth.
To raise awareness about grass-root programs that allow young girls and women a “leg-up” to be involved in contributing to the larger conversation and to share professional experience, IVolunteer International conducted a Facebook live-interview with three executives of FWWMUN.
