New Year w/ Visually Challenged
SocialService.lk is organizing a community service and fund-raising event for the 3rd consecutive year; Sinhala & Tamil New Year w/ the Visually Impaired 2017. This year too they will be conducting the ‘Awurudu Uthsawaya’ with special focus upon increasing awareness among the general public about a group of the Sri Lankan society that has been isolated. They are deprived of leading life like any other ordinary person and also deprived of opportunities and proper education. They lack due care by the rest of the community.
This ‘Awurudu’ event is organized in order to provide an unforgettable and divergent experience to each and everyone who can become a part of this event. It includes the participants, members, the public and most importantly, the visually impaired community. SocialService.lk seeks to inspire and bring joy in their everyday lives.
A visually impaired individual lacks the chance for several New Year celebrations such as ‘Kanamutti Bindeema, Andayata Kiri Kaweema or Aaliyata Eha Thebeema.’ The event will be exuberant with about 500 visually impaired people, funfilled and jaunty with several games entertaining everyone. Some of the games include;
- Banis Kema
- Aliyata Aha thabeema
- Pol athu wiweema
- Baloon pipiraweema
- Sooppuwen Koththamalli Beema
- Kamba Adeema
- Kiri Kaweema
- Awurudu Kumari
There will also be a Musical Show and many other games and activities following this.

The event will be hosted on April 30, 2017, in Colombo (specific venue TBA).
