Thanksgiving is a beautiful season. We give thanks to our friends, family, colleagues, and everyone around us for their support in our daily lives. The Thanksgiving Season has transformed to be a season of blessings and goodwill, and we use it as a reflection to understand how lucky we are. Although the history of Thanksgiving is a little different to what it is considered to be today, you can always plan to be a volunteer during this season and give back to your community! Here are some volunteer opportunities in the Coastal Georgia area that you can participate in, to give back and help someone in need.
- Sign up for Thanksgiving Meal shifts with Union Mission
Union Mission exists to prevent and end homelessness in the greater Savannah area. For Thanksgiving, they have three shifts you can sign up to share meals and assist the organization with other basic tasks. On November 21, 2018, you can contribute your time to the Union Mission. For more information about the project, visit our projects portal.
- Donate Scarves and Gloves to Salvation Scarves
Salvation Scarves is a project organized by a group of individuals. They are collecting yarn, knitted scarves, knitted gloves, and knitted hats in order to donate them to homeless people living in Atlanta. If you’re in the Coastal area, you can easily drop them off at the point of collection. The group will be going to Atlanta this Thanksgiving. - Volunteer At the Second Harvest Food Bank
Second Harvest serves as the food safety net for tens of thousands of children, senior citizens, low-income families, and people with disabilities who are at risk for hunger throughout Southern Georgia. You can contact their Savannah or Brunswick office and plan a volunteer trip there. For more information about the project, visit our projects portal.
- Organize a Food Drive for Second Harvest Food Bank
Every year members of the community come together to collect food to donate to America’s Second Harvest.
