About the Organization
Established in 1981 in Savannah Georgia, America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia is a locally inspired, volunteer-driven nonprofit food bank and community partnering organization. Second Harvest serves as the food safety net for tens of thousands of children, senior citizens, low-income families, and people with disabilities who are at risk for hunger throughout Southern Georgia.
Volunteer Opportunity
Every year members of the community come together to collect food to donate to America’s Second Harvest. These donations support their programs and help them to feed hungry neighbors here in Coastal Georgia. You, too, can help support them on their mission to end hunger by hosting a food drive. Encourage your friends, family, religious organization, company, business, or social club to get involved and participate. Ask your friends to donate food or funds in lieu of gifts at your next party.
A Food Drive is easy as 1-2-3 and goes a long way in helping those in need in your community.
- Prepare for your drive
Talk to your neighbors, friends, family, and coworkers about your food drive. Make flyers or posters. Drop by Second Harvest to pick up a food donation barrel or use a box or container you already have at home. Second Harvest is also available to drop off barrels at your place of business. Have fun with it! - Conduct your food drive
Ask for foods Second Harvest needs the most- peanut butter, jelly, canned meats, soups, canned fruit, and rice. You can come up with games or contests for participants. Encourage friendly competition. - Conclude your drive
Deliver the food collected to the food bank or call them if your food drive donations are too large to deliver so they can schedule pick up time. Thank the people who supported your drive!
